Sandy shores

There was such a variety of ideas in this months mood board at Scrap around the world, but I loved the footprint in the sand with the sea receding , and opted for scrapping a picture of Dave on the beach.

The photo was taken in  Jeffrey's Bay a town famous for its surfing spots. Recently it made world news  when an Australian surfer was given a bit too much attention by a shark during an international surfing competition- he survived with a few cuts and lots of shock!

I started out this layout with so many ideas and they all seemed to come together , loved making the little coral scene in the top corner and the little surf sign and the shell stamp . I was feeling great about the layout and ever so pleased with myself.....and then it  all fell apart. I decided to tear the photo to give it that roughened look , never realising just how tough photo paper is,I then had to crop it as my ink had run out on the printer, got gesso on my top ( a good one) and had a small accident with the glue so had to do some cover ups!

But I do like the way it turned out , tried a different setting on the camera  and think the picture could possibly be better than normal.

So all is well that ends well.

PS Please note the little footprints in the sand ... thought that they were a rather nice touch.

  1. Oh my! This LO certainly took a journey....& you with it, eh? It looks AMAZING...can't see any sharks on it, though, LOL!!! And I ADORE your 'surf' sign up the top....in fact, the whole sort of 'castaway on a dessert island' look is fabulous:):) I'm glad it all came up Ace in the end....& hope you got that gesso out....grrrrr!!! Your photos look way good. I'm having trouble atm with the whole shot being 'in focus'... it's annoying me BIG TIME.....might try my 50 mm lense and see how that goes..... hey ho! The joys of trying to make it all work! Right, dribbling now....must go;)

  2. Hi Wendy, thanks so much for visiting my blog recently! I know what you mean about the Zentangle challenge, it certainly was a challenge for me, but i do love to have success outside of my comfort zone. Love your layout and the little coral patch, and the beautiful layout about your friend. That's what scrapping is all about as you said, helping us remember the good times and keeping our loved ones close even though they may no longer be with us! x

  7. What a good idea to take those close-up photos, you should do that more often!
Wendy, to me this layout represents your progress: lots of detail, but also not afraid to leave some space and let the elements speak for themselves. And so nice to see you do a layout of Dave again, and to recognize some of those items I have found for you over the years. I can feel the sea and the sand....
